Guided Hike to Hellroaring Creek & Suspension Bridge

Overview
This moderately strenuous hike offers a perfect mix of adventure, solitude, and scenery in Yellowstone’s Northern Range. The Hellroaring Creek Trail begins with a steady descent through lodgepole pine forests and open sagebrush meadows, dropping approximately 600 feet in the first mile before arriving at a Yellowstone surprise: a 220-foot-long steel suspension bridge stretched over the Black Canyon of the Yellowstone River.

As you step onto the bridge, you’ll feel a gentle sway beneath your feet—a safe and thrilling way to take in the canyon’s dramatic cliffs and rushing water far below. It’s a cinematic moment few visitors ever experience.

After crossing, we’ll continue another mile through what we affectionately call the “Enchanted Forest”, a peaceful section of trail flanked by wildflowers, twisted trees, and the soothing sound of water nearby. At Hellroaring Creek, we’ll take a well-earned break to soak our feet, enjoy lunch, and watch for osprey scanning the water for trout.

Then it’s a slow, steady hike back uphill to the trailhead, with plenty of conversation and stories to help the climb go down easily.
